Say “massage” and most people picture a spa, soft music, and an hour of pampering. That kind of massage has its place — but registered massage therapy is a different thing entirely. It’s hands-on clinical treatment for real problems: pain, injuries, and the deep tension that builds up when your body compensates for something. At our North Edmonton clinic, it’s one of the hardest-working tools we have.
Massage therapy is treatment, not just a treat
A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) trains for thousands of hours to understand how muscles, connective tissue, and the nervous system work together. That’s why massage therapy is covered by insurance the same way other health services are — it’s recognized treatment, not a luxury. An RMT assesses what’s actually tight, guarded, or injured, then works specifically on that, rather than giving a generic full-body rub.
What registered massage therapy helps with
People come to our RMTs for a wide range of issues, most of them stubborn things that haven’t settled on their own:
- Chronic neck, shoulder, and back tension — especially from desk work and screens
- Injury recovery from car accidents (whiplash and soft-tissue strain) and workplace injuries
- Sports injuries, overuse, and muscle strains
- Headaches driven by tight neck and shoulder muscles
- Stress-related tension that never quite lets go
- Reduced range of motion and stiffness that limits how you move
Why it works so well alongside chiropractic
This is the part a lot of people don’t realize. Chiropractic care restores movement to stiff joints; massage therapy releases the tight muscles that surround and pull on those joints. Do one without the other and the problem often creeps back — the muscles drag the joint out of place again, or the joint stiffens up the muscles. Together, they hold. That’s why we offer both under one roof and frequently pair them in the same treatment plan.
What a first visit looks like
Your RMT starts by asking what’s bothering you and what you’re hoping to get back to — sleeping without a sore neck, lifting your kids, getting through a workday without shoulder pain. They’ll do a quick assessment, then tailor the session to what you actually need. You stay in control the whole time: pressure, focus areas, and pace are all up to you. Wear comfortable clothing, and plan to drink some water afterward.
Covered by most insurance plans
Registered massage therapy is covered by the vast majority of extended health plans in Alberta, and you don’t need a doctor’s referral to book. We direct bill more than 47 insurers, so on covered plans there’s little or nothing to pay up front. If your tension or injury came from a car accident or a workplace incident, it’s usually covered through your auto insurance or WCB instead — and we handle that billing and documentation too.
The bottom line
If you’ve been carrying around tension or an injury that stretching and rest haven’t fixed, registered massage therapy is worth a visit — on its own or paired with chiropractic care. No referral needed, direct billing available, evenings and Saturdays open. Call (825) 394-3641 or book online at our North Edmonton clinic, 15152 127 St NW.
