Direct Billing to Your Insurance in Edmonton

Little or nothing to pay up front — we bill your insurer for you.

One of the first questions we hear from new patients is a practical one: “Is this covered, and do I have to pay up front?” For most people the answer is yes it’s covered, and no you don’t — because we direct bill your insurance provider at the time of your visit.

That means the covered portion of your treatment goes straight to your insurer. You only pay the difference, if there is any. No paperwork, no waiting weeks for a reimbursement cheque, no chasing your benefits company.

How direct billing works

When you book, just bring your insurance or benefits card (or your policy and member ID numbers). At checkout we submit your claim electronically to your provider. In most cases the response comes back in seconds, we collect only the portion your plan doesn’t cover, and you walk out done.

If your plan is one of the few that doesn’t support direct billing, we’ll give you a detailed receipt with everything your insurer needs, so your reimbursement goes through quickly.

Most Alberta extended health plans cover chiropractic

The vast majority of workplace and private extended health plans in Alberta include chiropractic care, and most also cover registered massage therapy. Your plan usually sets a yearly dollar maximum per practitioner type, and sometimes a per-visit cap.

Alberta Health Care (the public plan) does not cover routine chiropractic visits — which is exactly why your extended or private benefits matter. The good news: those plans are common, and you don’t need a doctor’s referral to use them for chiropractic in Alberta.

Not sure what your plan covers?

Don’t let that stop you from booking. Call us at (825) 394-3641 and we’ll help you check your coverage before your first visit, or we’ll verify it when you come in. Motor vehicle accident and work injuries are billed differently — usually at no cost to you — see our MVA and WCB pages.

Frequently asked questions

Do you direct bill my insurance?

We direct bill more than 40 providers including Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield Canada and Desjardins. If your plan supports direct billing, we handle it at the front desk — you only pay any remaining balance.

Do I need a referral for chiropractic in Alberta?

No. You can book directly online or by phone. Most Alberta insurance plans allow direct chiropractic access with no physician referral.

What do I bring to my first visit?

Your insurance or benefits card (or policy and member/ID numbers), and the plan holder’s name if it’s a family or spousal plan. If you’ve used the benefit elsewhere this year, a rough idea of your remaining balance helps.

What if my plan doesn’t do direct billing?

You pay at the visit and we give you a detailed receipt with everything your insurer needs to reimburse you quickly.
