What whiplash actually is

In a collision your head snaps rapidly forward and back. That whipping motion overstretches the soft tissues of the neck beyond their normal range. Because it is a soft tissue and joint injury, it often does not show up on a standard X-ray, yet it still causes very real pain and stiffness.

Why the symptoms are often delayed

Right after an accident, adrenaline masks pain. As it wears off over the next 24 to 72 hours, inflammation from the injury builds and the symptoms arrive. Some people notice them even later. A delay does not mean the injury is minor, and your coverage still applies.

A realistic whiplash recovery timeline

Every whiplash injury is different, so treat this as a general guide rather than a promise:

The first few days: stiffness and soreness often peak. Gentle movement, ice for the first day or two, and an early assessment help the most.
